Back from San Francisco

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Hi all, I’m back.

Strange building

In San Francisco some buildings are strangely built.

The Game Developers Conference was great. Great speakers, and great place to talk with people. I’ve learned a lot about game design and had a lot of fun.

Shigeru Miyamoto

Shigeru Miyamoto, the designer of Mario and Zelda had a talk. This blurry picture sort of proves I was there.

serious faces

Me and Karel.
There where a number of Dutch people there from the Game Design course at Utrecht School of the Arts. It’s where I graduated and Karel still works there.

The Hostel we where in was very nice. It was in the Tenderloin neighborhood, there where a lot of homeless people in that area. I was with another guy, so we felt reasonably safe, but I wouldn’t go on the street at night if I was a girl.

I had a nice talk with Ben Rattray, the founder of www.change.org. Change.org is also a social network site that deals with charities. He’s a friendly charismatic guy with big ambitions for his site.

serious painting

San Francisco is also known for it’s arts and rich cultural life. We also went out a number of times, this is a picture at a bar.

Being curious by nature, I asked a barman why they do free refills for soda drinks. He explained it costs them about 2 cents, so they make enough money on it any way (!).

down hill

Hey, more of these strange buildings.

That’s the trip summary. Next post it will be all about Helpalot again.
